My albums are not really albums but rather some photos with the same tag applied. I currently use metadata tags for album creation and ratings. Thus I really really want to avoid a proprietary database for image organization. I was a struggle to get the star ratings over and I lost all albums in the transition. I made the move from picasa to lightroom and then to photo mechanic two years ago. Is it possible to rate photos in photo mechanics and have Mylio pick this up and show it? What happens if I for some reason choose to jump ship from Mylio in the future? Which information will be lost and which information can other programs use? Are ratings preserved? Are albums preserved? Which of the browsers above rely on some sort of database to store information? It is not really working as smoothly as I was hoping for so I am constantly looking for alternatives. Thus I really really want to avoid a proprietary database for image organization. Or maybe Photo Mechanic, although it's probably overkill for your needs.

Others to look at are other photo browsers: XnviewMP, GraphicConverter, maybe Aftershot Pro which can be used as a browser. An added advantage is that it can read Lr adjustments, so it can handle stuff you've already processed in Lr. Also, there are some really basic things missing like viewing two images side-by-side. Now if you want to get more advanced with organizing (can't do iCloud with referenced images, for example) then it may not meet your needs. The way you describe it, Photos will do exactly what you wish and obviously it's free. I looked in to Mylio after Apple killed Aperture and I've been very pleased.
It's ver simple, exceptionally fast and the Mylio team is hard to beat with online and on the phone support. You may want to look at a new program that I've been very impressed with called Mylio. I agree that Lightroom is overkill for many photographers. Looking forward learning from users who also want to spend minimal time on organizing and post-processing. I did some searching before posting this, and could not find anything better than Picasa. So I want to go back to JPEG, with minimal post-processing: mostly crop and auto enhance. I don't have the time to keep up with shooting RAW and post-processing in Lightroom, I get huge backlogs. However after 1,5 years using it I find that Lightroom is for more serious users. Then Apple decided to kill iPhotos, and I switched to Lightroom.
